HOMEWORK HELPER
Responsible interns or volunteers are needed to work as homework support at a
group home in Central Davis, four afternoons each week. The residents are six
boys, 8-12 y.o., who live at the home for an average of 18 months. They attend
public school, and have daily assignments to complete. Assignments include:
reading, spelling, grammar, writing, reports, math, science and social studies…
A. QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficiency in all basic academic subjects through at least high school
level.
- Commitment through the school year tho June 15.
- Intern or volunteer.
- Pass fingerprinting requirements.
- Obtain tuberculosis clearance.
- Sincere dedication to help children.
B. DUTIES
- Become familiar with group home program and policies, and provide
compatible behavioral and academic guidelines to residents.
- Explain basic academic concepts related to homework.
- Offer problem solving methods and effective study skills.
- Guide residents in keeping track of assignments and in successfully
organizing time and efforts to complete work on time.
- Assist residents in setting priorities and self-rewards for homework.
- Provide 1-1 assistance for work, rotating among the other residents.
- Provide simple incentives, awards and/or rewards for improving skills!
- Communicate regularly with staff, child advocates, tutors and teachers.
- Attend trainings/observations (6-8 hrs), regularly scheduled hours and
occasional meetings.
- Assist in documenting residents' work, ie, in school and house logs.

Mon, Tues, Thurs. - 3:30pm - 5p.m. Wed. 2-3:30 p.m.
